We are excited to announce that our clients can now monetize their links through tens of thousands of affiliate programs due to a brand new integration in the Geniuslink service with the top two affiliate monetization platforms available – Sovrn/Commerce (formerly Viglink) and Skimlinks. In this article, we’ll be walking through how to find and connect your Sovrn credentials to your Geniuslink account so you can start earning commissions from even more places.

Don’t have a Sovrn account yet? Sign up here!

Getting Started

Navigate to the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account, then select “Connect Sovrn of Skimlinks” under “Affiliate Aggregators”

Select Sovrn/Commerce (formerly Viglink)

To find your keys, log in to your Sovrn/Commerce dashboard, then navigate to Settings -> Sites to view your available sites. If you’ve just signed up, you should only have one site on this page.

Note: We currently don’t support aggregator affiliation for multiple sites, so if you have multiple Sovrn/Commerce sites listed on this page, please select the one that you want your Geniuslink traffic associated with.

To find your API Key, click on the “key” icon to the right of your chosen site.

From here, copy your “API Key” value, then paste this into the corresponding field within the “Connect an Affiliate Aggregator” dialogue box in the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account.

Secret Key

From there, you can click "Generate secret API key" and a dropdown will appear that includes the API key and the newly generated secret API key

Then, just as before, copy your “Secret Key” value, then paste this into the corresponding field within the “Connect an Affiliate Aggregator” dialogue box in the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account.

That’s it! Once you have all of these details pasted into Geniuslink, save your settings and you should now see Sovrn/Commerce appear under “Connected Aggregators”.

How does this work with directly affiliated product links?

If you’re building affiliate links to a product that are running directly through a retailer’s affiliate program, (and that storefront is also supported by Sovrn/Commerce) you’ll want to ensure that the “Override Affiliated Links” setting in Sovrn/Commerce is disabled.

This setting should be disabled by default, but you can verify this by navigating to Settings and ensuring “Override Affiliated Links” is disabled.

How to test that your Sovrn/Commerce (formerly Viglink) link is Affiliating

To test that your Sovrn/Commerce link is affiliating, first build a link that directs to a page for the retailer whose ID you just added. To do this, first, copy the URL of a page for that retailer directly from the page's address bar.

*Because you have added this retailer's ID to your affiliate page, you will never need to grab affiliate links from that program's affiliate dashboard.

Then, create a link with that URL by pasting that URL into the link creator on your links page.

You'll then need to install a redirect tracing service such as Link Redirect Trace. Installing a redirect tracing service is necessary because our service adds your Sovrn/Commerce IDs in the redirects between your link and the final page URL your customer lands on.

Once you have your redirect tracing tool installed, find your link and click it.

On the page you land on, access your redirect trace. Then and look for your API Key in the redirects. If you've set things up correctly, you'll see them in the same place as the highlighted sections in the image below.

If you see your API Key in the redirect, then great, you're all set! However, if not, please ensure that you've correctly added your ID to your Affiliate page and there are no typos in your ID.
