We are excited to announce that our clients can now monetize their links through tens of thousands of affiliate programs due to a brand new integration in the Geniuslink service with the top two affiliate monetization platforms available – VigLink and Skimlinks.

In this article, we’ll be walking through how to find and connect your Skimlinks credentials to your Geniuslink account so you can start earning commissions from even more places.

Don’t have a Skimlinks account yet? Sign up here!

Getting Started

Navigate to the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account, then select “Connect Viglink or Skimlinks” under “Affiliate aggregators”

Select “Skimlinks” from the Affiliate Aggregator dropdown.

Client ID

Your Client ID can be found by logging into your Skimlinks Hub, then navigating to Toolbox > API > API Authentication Credentials

Copy your “Client ID” value, then paste this into the corresponding field within the “Connect an affiliate aggregator” dialogue box in the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account.

Client Secret

Your Client Secret is found on the same page as your Client ID, found by logging into your Skimlinks Hub, then navigating to Toolbox > API > API Authentication Credentials

Copy your “Client Secret” value, then paste this into the corresponding field within the “Connect an affiliate aggregator” dialogue box in the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account.

Publisher ID

Your Publisher ID is found on the same page as your Client ID and Secret.

Copy your "Publisher ID" value, then paste this into the corresponding filed within the "Connect an affiliate aggregator" dialogue box in the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account.

Site ID

Finally, your Site ID can be found by logging into your Skimlinks Hub, then navigating to Settings > Sites

Note: Some account types (such as Developer Accounts) may not be able to access the Site ID - contact your team’s account admin if you’re unable to find this!

Like before, copy your “Site ID” value, then paste this into the corresponding field within the “Connect an affiliate aggregator” dialogue box in the Affiliate tab of your Geniuslink account.

That’s it! Once you have all of these details pasted into Geniuslink, save your settings and you should now see Skimlinks appear under the “Affiliate aggregators” section.

How does this work with Amazon affiliate links?

If you’re building sharing Amazon affiliate links and want to ensure they don't run through Skimlinks, check that this setting is set to "Off" in your Skimlinks Hub.

This setting should be disabled by default, but you can verify this by navigating to Toolbox -> Tools and ensuring “Amazon Overwrite” is disabled.

How to test that your Skimlinks link is Affiliating

To test that your Skimlinks link is affiliating, first build a geni.us link that directs to a page for the retailer whose ID you just added. To do this, first, copy the URL of a page for that retailer directly from the page's address bar.

*Because you have added this retailer's ID to your affiliate page, you will never need to grab affiliate links from that program's affiliate dashboard.

Then, create a geni.us link with that URL by pasting that URL into the link creator on your links page.

You'll then need to install a redirect tracing service such as Link Redirect Trace. Installing a redirect tracing service is necessary because our service adds your Skimlinks IDs in the redirects between your geni.us link and the final page URL your customer lands on.

Once you have your redirect tracing tool installed, find your geni.us link and click it.

On the page you land on, access your redirect trace. Then and look for your publisher ID and client ID in the redirects. If you've set things up correctly, you'll see them in the same place as the highlighted sections in the image below.

If you see your publisher ID and client ID in the redirect, then great, you're all set! However, if not, please ensure that you've correctly added your ID to your Affiliate page and there are no typos in your ID.
